Rita C. Baumgartner

Rita Christine Baumgartner, 79, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, in Appleton.

Rita was born in Shawano on April 24, 1937, the daughter of the late Anton G. and Lorraine (Pevonka) Hoffman. On Oct. 13, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald H. Baumgartner in Gresham. Rita worked at Norm’s Lunch, L & L, the Country Store and as a crossing guard for the city of Shawano for 21 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 117 and St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Rita was also active with the St. James Retreat and a volunteer for the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.

Rita is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald; four children, Daniel D. (Sharon) Baumgartner, GayLynn Baumgartner, Douglas L. (Elizabeth) Baumgartner and Dennis J. (Rhonda) Baumgartner; four grandchildren, Stacey, Timothy, Brandi and Christine; and two great-grandchildren, Brennah and Brayden. She is further survived by her sisters and brothers, Shirley Ebelt, Janice (Clarence) Natzke, Jeanette Crow, James Hoffman, Rosemary Buchberger, Rachel (Alberto) Mola, Ruben Hoffman and Cheryl (Charles) Ketchum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters, Gilbert, Carol, Roger, Antone Jr., Frances and Lorraine.

Funeral services for Rita will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Michael Schram officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for SAFPARC, Wisconsin Veterans Home at King or a charity of your choice.

Rita’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Shawano Ambulance, ThedaCare of Shawano and Appleton, the chaplain in Appleton, and anyone they may have missed, for the wonderful care given to Rita.

Derl C. Howe

Derl C. Howe, the son of the late Eva and Emmit Howe, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at age 86.

He is survived by his son, Robert Howe (Maggie); daughter, Jennifer Ray (Kelly); stepsons, Jim and Tom Scannel; and grandchildren, Nicholas, Kaylee, Abigail and Alexander. He was brother of Joe, Duane, Eva Mary and the late Jude, Hilary, Pat and Louis. He is further survived by numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

A military service for close family and friends will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring St., Union Grove, at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.

Memorials are appreciated to the family.

Derl touched many lives as an English teacher in Shawano. He served his country in the Navy, loved nature and polka dancing. He was still active, going dancing weekly, camping and walking daily.

Kay N. Luethi

Kay N. Luethi, 71, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2016, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Neenah.

Kay was born on Nov. 2, 1944, in the town of Waumandee, Buffalo County, a daughter of the late Arnold and Laura (Wirtenberger) Zeller. She attended school in Arcadia. On June 10, 1967, Kay was united in marriage to Gary W. Luethi at St. Boniface Catholic Church in the town of Waumandee. The couple lived in Buffalo County until moving to Shawano.

Kay was a homemaker, raising her children and caring for her husband. Gary preceded her in death on May 21, 2007.

Kay was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working in her garden.

Survivors include her three sons, Daniel and Ronald Luethi, of Shawano, and Dean (Ruth) Luethi, of Pullman, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Kay N. Luethi will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Relatives and friends may call from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.

Ione L. Holman

Ione L. Holman, 90, of Waupaca, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at Bethany Home in Waupaca.

Ione was born in Boyceville on Oct. 5, 1925, the daughter of the late Clare and Vivien (Welch) Throne. Her family moved to Fremont, and Ione began attending Parfreyville Methodist Church. There she met James Holman, and they were married on Feb. 11, 1949. They worked side by side on their dairy farm, 9 miles south of Waupaca. Here they raised their family. Together they sold vegetables, Ione in Clintonville and Jim in Shawano, until they decided to just sell in Shawano.

Ione and Jim traveled to every state, including Alaska and Hawaii. Together they did prison ministry at Oxford. They became snowbirds in Mission, Texas, where they loved square dancing, rock hounding, playing shuffleboard and various card games. She always put her family first, and nothing made her happier than when her entire family gathered together.

Ione is survived by her daughters, Grace (Richard) Piechowski, Waupaca, and Ruth Holman, Menasha; her grandchildren, Sandra (Alan) Cordes, Waupaca, James Piechowski, Milwaukee, Alicia (Ben) Wallin, Brodhead, and Michelle Holman, Stoughton; and her three great-grandchildren, Jameson, Hudson and Grayson Wallin. Ione is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; her son, Kirk; a sister, Velma Dawson; and her brother and sisters-in-laws, Lois (George) Snyder, Lucy (Don) Bacon and John Holman.

The funeral service will be on Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at Parfreyville United Methodist Church, Waupaca, with the Rev. Eric Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Parfreyville Cemetery, town of Dayton. Visitation will be on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are greatly appreciated to the Parfreyville United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Bethany Home and Dr. Paul Sletten for their care and concern for Ione.

Louise W. Gutt

Louise W. Gutt, 85, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016.

Louise was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on April 10, 1931, the daughter of the late Ray H. and Ada (Russell) Warren. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in North Carolina, graduated from Richland High School and later attended St. Mary’s Junior College.

Louise was in civil service at Camp Lejeune, where she met Donald E. Gutt. On Aug. 30, 1952, Louise and Don were united in marriage in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She worked for Hoeper Insurance of Shawano, Shawano County agent office, Shawano County Library, Wisconsin Finance and Shawano High School. Louise was a member of St. James Church in Shawano, St. James Tabatha and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Louise is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don, their children, Donna Lou (Scott) Biebel and Lisa Lin Gutt; and two grandchildren, William S. Biebel and Mallory (fiancé, Dennis Kinchen) Biebel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ray, Earl and Preston Warren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Roy A. Giese

Roy Arthur Giese, 89, of Bowler, passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at ThedaCare Hospital.

Roy was born on Feb. 17, 1927, the son the late Frank and Minnie (Bratz) Giese. On Feb. 12, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mabel Ladwig at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda. They were married for 67 years.

Most of his life, Roy worked in construction. He worked for 38 years for Clintonville Lumber & Supply. His favorite pastimes included playing cards, especially sheephead and Up and Down the River, hunting, fishing, gardening and trapping, and he always let you know if it wasn’t quite right.

Roy is survived by his wife, Mabel, of Bowler; their children, Luella (Roger) Young, of Wittenberg, LeRoy (Barb) Giese, of Fremont, Janice (Jim) Guetschow, of Wittenberg, and Sharon (special friend, James) Kassa, of Tigerton; seven grandchildren, Randy (Angie) Young, of Weston, Kathleen Young, of Wittenberg, Lori (Mike) Murphy, of Sussex, Nicholas Giese, of Fremont, Shane (Patty) Howard, of Bowler, Shelly Zeinert, of Eland, and Jesse (Jennifer) Zeinert, of Merrill; five great-grandchildren, Addison and Reece Young, Alyssa Howard, Kaylynn and Nicole Zeinert; two brothers, Otto (Elizabeth) Giese, of Bowler, and Orville (Sandy) Giese, of Bowler; one sister, Angeline Ebert, of Shawano; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Ruben and Betty Giese, and one brother-in-law, Quint Ebert.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with Lay Minister Lois Graper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services.

Golda Maass

Golda Maass, 92, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, in Shawano.

Golda was born in Windsor, Colorado, on Nov. 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Arnold and Golda (McConnell) Ingram. On March 10, 1945, in California, Golda was united in marriage to Walter J. Maass. The couple lived in Milwaukee for 36 years until moving to Eagle River after Walter’s retirement. They resided in Eagle River for 22 years before ending up in Shawano.

Walter preceded her in death in November 2014. Walter and Golda loved to travel “out west” where they had a second home in Apache Junction, Arizona. While there, they enjoyed rock hunting. More than anything, Golda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Golda is survived by her son, Michael (Sue) Maass, of Wild Rose; her daughter, Maurine Maass, of Eagle River; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Pastor Will) Harley, of Winner, South Dakota; and her grandson, Ryan (Shannon) Maass, of East Troy. She is further survived by four great-grandchildren and her sister, Iva Hendricks, of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a grandson, Eric Maass; her parents; and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Divine Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Paul Kuehn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Karen K. Lane

Karen K. Lane, 75, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Appleton.

Karen was born on March 16, 1941, a daughter of the late Gustave and Fern (Koeller) Zimmerman. She was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. She attended and graduated from Shawano Senior High in 1959. Following high school she attended the School of Vocational and Adult Education in Appleton.

On Dec. 12, 1964, Karen was united in marriage to Marvin G. Lane at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Manitowoc. Karen was employed as a secretary at E.C.E. Building Service in Manitowoc for many years. She was very involved in her church in Manitowoc as a Sunday school teacher and financial secretary. Following their retirement, the couple returned to Shawano. They had many good times at their cottage on Shawano Lake.

Karen is a member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, town of Richmond. She enjoyed cooking and crafting. Though she survived polio and breast cancer and lived with MS for part of her life, she never let her disabilities get in her way. Karen traveled extensively to display and sell the many crafts she made. Her faith in the Lord overpowered and she conquered all she set out to do.

Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Marvin; her brother, Ronald (Judy) Zimmerman, of Wichita, Kansas; her nieces and nephews, Amy (Gene) Morgan and family, Aaron (Michele) Zimmerman and family, and Adam (Andrea) Zimmerman and family; her cousins; Marvin’s family; and her church family and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandparents, Frank and Anna Zimmerman, and August and Regina Koeller.

A funeral service for Karen K. Lane will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, town of Richmond. Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt will officiate. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9-11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations may be made in Karen’s name to St. Jakobi Lutheran Church.

Lorelei A. Beauprey

Lorelei Alice (nee Denning) Beauprey walked on to join her children, Andrew and Barb, on Aug. 30, 2016, at the age of 76.

Wife of the late Luke Lester Beauprey Sr. Mother of Cathy (Wayne) Veley and Rita (Manfred) Burseth. Grandmother of Beth Marie Veley. Sister of Randy, the late Paige and the late Shari Denning, Alan, Gene, Crystal and Charlotte Caldwell. Godmother of Mark Denning. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Lorelei was an enrolled member of the Chippewa Tribe of White Earth, Minnesota.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 7929 W. Lincoln Ave., West Allis. A memorial gathering will be held at church from 1-2:45 p.m.

Alice J. Erdman

Alice J. Erdman, 89, passed away on Aug. 31, 2016, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Wisconsin Rapids, where she had resided since December 2015.

Alice was born on Feb. 10, 1927, to Frank and Anna Zeman, and married Edward A. Erdman in 1946. Together they had one child, Darlene.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Richard A.) Hartman; grandchildren, Ryan (Stephany) Hartman, of Wisconsin Rapids, and Heidi (Alex) Dubberke, of South Carolina. Alice is further survived by great-grandchildren Elyse Anne Hartman and Nolan Ryan Hartman.

Private family services were held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with the entombment taking place at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano.

The family requests no flowers, but memorials can be made in Alice’s name to Sacred Heart Church in Shawano, the Wounded Warriors organization or Assumption Catholic Schools Education Fund in Wisconsin Rapids.

To say Alice was a “character” is an understatement. Her personality was as big as her heart. Alice was unique, interesting and spoke her mind, and there are many Alice stories to make her family laugh in the future.

Alice was very creative and artistic. She loved working with all craft and art genre, and growing flowers, especially red roses. She is probably already making floral arrangements in the hereafter! Now, only flowers, no weeds, in Alice’s future. Bon voyage, Alice!

Darlene and Dick wish to thank the staff of Atrium Post Acute Care in Wisconsin Rapids and Shawano for their skills, caring and, most of all, understanding of Alice, and making her life and death a little better.

Ricky H. Zeinert

Ricky H. Zeinert, 70, Bowler, died on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1945, in Birnamwood, the son of the late Harold and Agnes (Bernarde) Zeinert.

On Aug. 23, 1997, Ricky was united in marriage to Patti Hamm in Bowler. She survives. Ricky worked for Jack Walter’s Builders and, most recently, Kolbe & Kolbe until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bowler. Ricky enjoyed woodworking, gardening, canning, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Patti, Bowler; two children, Kim (Mark) Kindschi, Edgerton, and Jason Zeinert, Wittenberg; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Victoria; mother-in-law, Ruth Hamm, Wittenberg; siblings, Larry (friend Diane Long) Zeinert, Wittenberg, Darwin (Betty) Zeinert, Tigerton, Rodney (Pat) Zeinert and Sharon (Dennis) Trinko, all of Bowler; siblings-in-law, Lori Zeinert, Waupaca, Pat Zeinert, Wausau, Mike (Sue) Hamm, Wittenberg, Gary (Emily) Hamm, Tigerton, Rose Hamm, Appleton, and Bob Schmidt, Leopolis; and Ricky’s former wife, Donna Zeinert, Wittenberg.

Ricky was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerald and DeLloyd; sister, Julaine Olson; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Schmidt and Bonnie Zeinert; and brother-in-law, Clarence Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bowler. The Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Oura G. Schneider

Oura G. Schneider, of Tigerton, passed away on Aug. 29, 2016, at 8:25 p.m. at Pine Manor in Embarrass. He was born on July 24, 1938, in Oshkosh to Albert and Lavina(Benedict) Schneider.

He spent eight years in the National Guard.

“Tub” was employed by the LA Country Club for many years as chief engineer. Tub enjoyed riding around his tractors and always hoped to be a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Robert Schneider, of Los Angeles, and David Schneider, of Middleton; two brothers, Warren (Pat) Schneider, of Oshkosh, and Wayne (Barb) Schneider, Atoka, Tennessee; sister, Rosemary Sheldon, of Oshkosh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joann, and brother, Albert.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Claire’s Hospital in Weston and the staff at Pine Manor in Embarrass for their kindness and exceptional care of Oura.

Andrew D. Retzlaff

Andrew Retzlaff, 18, of Shawano, passed away in an automobile accident on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016.

Born on Aug. 25, 1998, in Vladimir, Russia, Andrew was the son of Brian and Karla (Knapp) Retzlaff.

Andrew had just begun his senior year at Shawano Community High School. Growing up, he was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing football, baseball and basketball. He loved hunting, fishing, working on the farm and mud running in his free time. The bigger and louder the better, as far as Andrew was concerned, and no matter what he was doing he gave his all. His contagious smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Andrew is survived by his mother, Karla (Terry) Hoffman, of Gresham; his father, Brian (Brenda Wendler) Retzlaff, of Shawano; siblings, Alex and Ava Retzlaff; stepbrothers, René and Emanuel Hoffman; grandparents, Dave and Gloria Knapp and Betty Retzlaff; aunts and uncles, Gary and Patty Retzlaff, Connie (John Blasczyk) Retzlaff, Mike (Holly Zimmerman) Knapp, Mark and Carla Knapp, Kim (Mike McDaniel) Malchow, and Jason and Polly Knapp. He is further survived by his girlfriend, Amanda Onesti, as well as numerous cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Roland “Butch” Retzlaff.

A memorial service for Andrew will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Camouflage attire is encouraged.

Gladys Ann Neja, 81, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at ThedaCare Hospital.

Gladys was born on March 9, 1935, the daughter of the late John and Amanda (Krueger) Neumann. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and coloring in adult coloring books.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Richard Neja, and brother, Joe Neumann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings.

William F. Muck

William F. “Bill” Muck, 85, Pulaski, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, with his family at his side.

Born Jan. 28, 1931, to Frederick and Elda (Bartels) Muck, Bill graduated from Pulaski High School in 1948, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture in 1954. On March 26, 1951, he married Patricia Marnocha. After graduation from college, Bill worked for Pet Milk Company as a dairy field man and lived in Footville.

An involved member of the Pulaski area community, Bill touched many lives through his work. He sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha. As a lifelong farmer, he owned and operated dairy farms. He also shared his knowledge of farming with others as an agriculture teacher at Pulaski High School and as farm training instructor for young and adult farmers at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Additionally, Bill worked for Farm Crop Insurance, where he conducted crop loss appraisals. Finally, Bill gave his time helping others as a volunteer with Land O’ Lakes Farmer to Farmer Program and as a member of many agriculture boards.

Bill was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Pulaski, where he had served as an usher and belonged to the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Bona Council 4439, Pulaski, and served as Grand Knight from 1964-1965. Bill also loved to volunteer for the Red River Therapeutic Riders.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, living in his Florida home, riding his horses on the Florida greenway and traveling throughout the world.

Bill will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Patricia; three sons, Michael (Lynn), Gregg (Stacee) and Randall (Lisa); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert; a sister, Betty (Dan) Paluso; a sister-in- law, Sandra (James) Geurts; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick, in 1967; parents, Frederick and Elda Muck; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Bernadine Marnocha; sisters-in-law, Sally Muck, Arlene Marnocha and Loretta Marnocha; and brothers-in-law, Donald Marnocha and Gerald Marnocha.

Friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, with closing prayer service and Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. Visitation continues after 9 a.m. Saturday at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M., presiding, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of William Muck to Assumption B.V.M. Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or Red River Therapeutic Riders of Shawano.

The family extends a special thank you to Cheryl and the team from Unity Hospice, as well as the neighbors, for their compassionate care.

Karen K. Lane

Karen K. Lane, 75, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Appleton.

A funeral service for Karen K. Lane will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, town of Richmond. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9-11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations may be made in Karen’s name to St. Jakobi Lutheran Church.

Frances R. Foreman

Frances R. “Mikki” Foreman, 86, of Bonduel, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, Sept. 5, 2016, following a lengthy illness.

Mikki was born on Nov. 30, 1929, in Ironwood, Michigan, a daughter of the late John and Fannie (Walli) Relich. She attended school in Ironwood, graduating from Luther L. Wright High School. Following school she moved to Milwaukee, where she met her future husband, James H. Foreman. The couple was united in marriage on May 14, 1949, in Shawano. In 1960, the couple moved to Bonduel, where Mikki was employed at the Bonduel Soil and Forage Laboratory for 27 years. James preceded her in death in May 2011.

Mikki was a member of the Bonduel United Methodist Church. To Mikki, family was everything. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was especially committed to her grandson, Josh. She enjoyed watching his baseball games and listening to his fishing tales. Mikki was kind, loving and generous.

She is survived by her son, James (Carole) Foreman, of Shawano; her beloved grandson, Josh (Rachel) Foreman, of Kaukauna; her brother, David Relich, of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Mikki was preceded in death by her brother, James Relich, and her sister, Virginia Strong.

In keeping with Mikki’s wishes, a private family service will be held. Interment will be in the Zion United Methodist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bonduel United Methodist Church in Mikki’s name.

Catlin E. Cox

Catlin E. “Cal” Cox, 81, of Shawano, passed away peacefully Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2016, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano, with his family by his side.

Cal was born May 7, 1935, in Shawano, a son of the late Norman and Fern (Halverson) Cox. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School in 1953. Following school, Cal was employed at Dumffey Boat Company in Oshkosh as a boat builder. He later worked at Payne Lumber Company in Oshkosh.

On May 5, 1979, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Kroenke at the Shawano United Methodist Church. Following their wedding, the couple lived in Oshkosh until 1983 when they moved to Shawano. Cal was employed at Weber Plywood & Veneer in Shawano, and was also employed at The Shawano Leader for several years before retiring. Following retirement Cal spend most of his time working on his novel, “The New Beginning” which has yet to be published.

Cal and Betty are longtime members of the Church on the Hill in Shawano, where Cal served as an usher. He enjoyed having frequent visitors at his house and spending time with his relatives at the cottage on Berry Lake. His love of woodworking paralleled his love for writing.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty, of Shawano; his stepdaughter, Gwen (Dean Hoks) Schwartzkopf, of Neenah; his sister, Karen Badeau of Shawano; his nieces and nephews, Bretta (Keith) Carlton, Becky (Ray) Sweetman, Ann (Mike) Wasmund, Amy (Joe) Rottier, and Elwood (Rhonda) Badeau, Jr.; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friend, Jill Tschirgi. Cal was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Elwood Badeau Sr. and Gilbert Stoffel.

Funeral services for Catlin E. “Cal” Cox will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church “The Church on the Hill” in Shawano. Pastor Claudia Deede will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in Cal’s name to the Shawano Area Food Pantry or the Church on the Hill.
