Joye Louise Hillman

Joye Louise (Hampel) Hillman, 91, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Joye was born on Sept. 5, 1927, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Louis and Tyne (Paalu) Hampel. Joye was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Hillman. Joye loved gardening and providing a helping hand or words of comfort and support to everyone she knew. She was very involved in the community and belonged to many organizations, including Shawano County Arts Council, the Shawano County Historical Society, Shawano NAMI, Shawano Order of the Eastern Star 167, Daughters of the Nile in Green Bay and Step-N-Sisters Tap Dance.

Joye is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughter Janis (Joe) Urban, of Clintonville; son, Todd (Betsy) Hillman, of Florida; three grandchildren, Chelsea Urban, of Menasha, Lauren Hillman, of South Dakota, and Dylan Hillman, of Florida; and a sister, Janice (Fred) Schulz, of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by a son, Wade Hillman, and her parents.

In honoring Joye’s wishes, no services will be held.

Donald Tanner Jr.

Donald “Gus” Tanner Jr., 53, Pulaski, died suddenly Thursday morning, March 7, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee from health issues associated with a long life of dialysis. He was born Jan. 24, 1966, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Donald Tanner Sr. and Kathy Mulloy. Don grew up in the South and graduated from Parkway South High School in Manchester, Missouri, and attended Southeast Missouri State on a music scholarship. As a young man, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard where he served until he was medically and honorably discharged and received his nickname “Gus.”

On Sept. 21, 1996, he married Terri “Tigger” McDermid at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Green Bay. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Green Bay before moving to rural Pulaski, where they had two children together. Gus was an active member of the Wolf River HOG Chapter 5629 and served in many capacities, enjoying numerous rides with his fellow riders and wife, Tigger.

Survivors are his wife, Tigger Tanner, Pulaski; two children, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Tyler Tanner, currently stationed at Norfolk, Virginia; Willow Tanner, at home; his stepson, Kristain McDermid, Idaho; his mother, Kathy Mulloy, Michigan; one brother, David Tanner, Missouri; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Mulloy, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2003, his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

Visitation will be held 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls with a service to follow. Cremation will follow.

Henry J. “Bun” Tomow, Jr.

Henry J. “Bun” Tomow, Jr., age 74, of Keshena, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019. He was born on June 7, 1944, he is the son of Henry and Frances (Waupoose) Sr. Bun served his country honorably in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War, with the 2nd Battalion, 33rd Armor, Germany.

Bun also served his community as a law enforcement officer for both Menominee County and Menominee Tribal Police Departments. Bun was an avid outdoorsman, Packer and Brewer fan. He was a proud man, maybe even to a fault. Despite having to overcome many hardships, he lived a rich life. More than anything, he loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Bun is survived by: his children, Tyrane “T.J” Tomow, Lana (Randy) Jenkins, Sheila (Tim) Hunter, all of Illinois, Thomas Tomow, Sr. of Shawano, April (Nathan) Williams of Michigan, Henry Tomow, III of Green Bay, Dakota Tomow of Shawano and Jeffrey Doxtator of Green Bay; numerous grandchildren; former wife Brenda; nieces, nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Louis, Bernard, Gertrude, Colin Sr., Elizabeth, Lucille, Lawrence and Margaret.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Assembly of God Church in Keshena with Rev. Jonathan Biffert officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation.

Harold J. Monette

Harold J. Monette, age 94 of Shawano, was called to eternal peace on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, following a long illness.

Harold was born October 7, 1924 in Wabeno, Wisconsin, a son of the late Joseph Leonard and Elizabeth Ann (Wauters) Monette. Following Harold’s mother’s death when he was three, his father eventually remarried and his stepmother, Ann (Linse) Monette raised and loved him as her own.

Harold was an all-conference football player in high school. Following his graduation in 1942, he traveled to Washington and Oregon to visit his older brothers before enlisting in the service. Harold served in WW11 from August of 1943 to April of 1946 with the U.S. Coast Guard, aboard the patrol frigate USS Groton in the North Atlantic.

When Harold returned from war, he married Ann M. Salaj of Bessemer, Michigan on February 1, 1947. The couple had known one another since childhood as their older siblings were married to one another. Harold graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1952 with a degree in education.

He began teaching later that year at Niagara High School. In 1959, he moved his family to Shawano. Harold earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Northern Michigan University in 1962, and served as the district library supervisor for the Shawano School District until retiring in 1986.

Harold was a longtime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Parish in the Town of Waukechon, and subsequently Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Harold was a devoted husband to his beloved “Annie” with whom he recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary! He was a caring father who always put family first, and he spent many evenings watching his children’s sporting events.

Harold took great pride in his hobby farm which had horses, cattle, and other animals, and taught his kids the joy and responsibility of caring for the animals. He always had a beautiful garden. Harold was an avid reader, particularly of historical novels. He was also a pianist, largely self-taught, and practiced religiously. One of his favorite pieces was “The Entertainer.”

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of Shawano; his daughters, Maria Koerwitz of Oshkosh, Cheryl (Randy) Schoenike of Clintonville; his sons, Richard (Deb) Monette of Green Bay, Robert (Lori) Monette of Pulaski, and James (Trisa) Monette of Madison; his grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick, and Kevin Koerwitz, Kristin (Ben) Schoenike Knaack and Kayla (Sam) Schoenike Meshnick, Erika (special friend, Josh Goodwater) Monette, Austin, Nicole, Lauren, and Caleb Monette; his great-grandson, Colton Knaack; his sister, Ursula Molloy of Dundee, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother; his brothers, Randall, Edward, Francis, Ambrose, and Ensor Monette; his sisters, Pearl Putman, Mina Edlebeck, Myrna Kopecky, and Melissa Blomquist; his step-brother, Joseph Wolfinger; and his step-sister, Dorothy McNulty.

A Memorial Mass for Harold J. Monette will be celebrated on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Fr. Tom Farrell will be the celebrant. Full military honors will be conducted by the Shawano AmVets Post 10. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Margaret Ann Fossum

Margaret A. Fossum, age 69, of Clintonville, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Milwaukee. Margaret was born in Keshena on Sept. 25, 1949, daughter of the late Russell and Christine (Waupekenay) Shegonee.

From the age of 8, Margaret was raised by Hazel Schmitt, whom she considered her mom.

Margi was united in marriage to John Fossum II in Neopit. She worked for Menominee County as the deputy clerk of courts for several years. She loved sports and often watched football, basketball and the Olympics. Her family was by far the most important part of her life, and she loved supporting her grandchildren, attending numerous sporting events and activities. She was a wonderful mother and Grammy and will be deeply missed.

Margaret is survived by her children, Jennifer Fossum of Green Bay, Jodi (Jon) Opper of Shawano, and John Fossum III of Colorado; and her grandchildren, Briana Fossum, Dahna Fossum, Allen Opper and Jon “LJ” Opper II. She is further survived by a brother, Nelson Shegonee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mom, Hazel Schmitt; her biological parents; siblings, Donna Corn, Myron Shegonee and Marsha Johnson; and her former husband, John Fossum II.

A funeral service will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo in the spring. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Patricia “Patsy” Ann Nacotee

Patricia “Patsy” Ann Nacotee, 67, Oconto, died peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2019, at home with friends at her side. She was born May 21, 1951, in Keshena to (Mitchell) Phillip and Beulah (Kitchenakow) Nacotee. She was a beautiful and determined person who was unable to speak or hear, yet spoke volumes through her strong personality and physical presence.

Because of her differing abilities and her family not able to take care of her, Patsy was moved to Northern Center Training Facility in Chippewa Falls at the age of 3, residing there until 1984. She returned to community life and lived in Oconto Falls before moving to Oconto. Patsy was employed by New View Industries in Gillett where she displayed a fierce work ethic, working fast and efficiently on jobs geared to her abilities. She also received services at the CP Center in Green Bay.

Patsy loved water activities, especially at the CP Center pool and could splash and kick with the best. She also enjoyed shopping, care rides, was a willing participant in household chores, doing things with others and participating in Special Olympics. Patsy received excellent care services from Visions of Oconto County, Oconto County Human Service and currently REM Services of WI.

Survivors are three siblings, Darrell, Jane and Merlynn; many friends from New View Industries and the CP Center, care providers: Robin, Shannon, Bev, her present group home staff and her guardian and friend, Roxy.

Visitation will take place after 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. F. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, South Branch. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Nacotee family.

A special thank you to Unity Hospice for the wonderful care provided Patsy throughout the years and all those who helped her live her life as independently as possible.

Patsy’s expressive smile will always be remembered.

Patricia Ann Lewis Zimmerman

Patricia Ann Lewis Zimmerman passed away on March 10, 2019 at the age 82 in a local Green Bay nursing home. Pat was born March 13,1936 in Green Bay to Lawrence and Zelda (Verheyden) Lewis. As a child Pat moved around a lot. She went to schools in Oconto, Oconto Falls, Duck Creek, Morgan and graduated from Oconto Falls high School in 1954. In 1955 she moved to Green Bay and married Wayne Zimmerman on July 28,1956. Together they had four children, two of which preceded her in death. Pat and Wayne shared 62 years of amazing adventures.

Pat worked for the Green Bay school system at the “Old” Norwood elementary school. Then she worked for the Brown County Library and was known to many as the “Mending Doctor.” Pat should always be remembered for her dill pickles, her never-empty cookie jar and the many crafts she shared with family and friends.

Pat and Wayne retired in 1997 and were never home after that. They traveled to Civil War battlefields, Presidential museums and libraries, to Minnesota and Michigan to visit children and grandchildren and to all the casinos in between. The highlight of their travels was their tour of Alaska to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Even after her stroke in 2005, they still were on the go! By car, bus, plane, train and ship and in the end by wheelchair. Here, there and everywhere.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; son, Bruce (Brenda) Zimmerman and their children, Chris, Grant (Annie), Garrett (Laurie), Eric (Leslie), Stephen (Samantha) and Laura (Tyler); daughter, Carol (Keith) Oelke and their children Nicholas and Amanda; Fred’s children, Zachary and Melissa and their mother Lisa; great-grandchildren, Grace, Wyatt, Christian, Connor and Tomi; sister, Gloria Murphy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who always included Pat and Wayne in their family celebrations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, W.C. Van; brother, Roger; sons, Daniel (1957) and Fred (2002); Sister-in-law, Colleen Swenby; bothers-in-law, Darwin Zimmerman, Howard Murphy and Paul Swenby.

Pat was blessed with long time traveling companions; Cy & Jackie Krajewski of Green Bay, Sandy & Harold DeMoulin of Green Bay, and Chuck Erler and his late wife Pat of Hemet, California. The family would like to thank all those who took care of Pat after her stroke, those who invited them over for a meal or sent food to the house. Thank you to these very special people in Pat’s life; nieces, Jackie and Lynn (Joe); friend and caregiver, Mae; friends, Jeanine and Ken & Zona. Pat enjoyed life because of all her wonderful friends and family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, from 2:00 pm until the funeral service at 4 p.m, with Rev. Paul Pett officiating. Nancy L. Timm

Funeral Services for Nancy L. Timm, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, at Zion Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, Minnesota. The Reverend Matthew Lehman will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.

Nancy died peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2019, at St. Johns Lutheran Community after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on April 2, 1945, in Shawano, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Schultz) Haut.

Nancy attended a one-room school, then St. James Lutheran School and graduated from Shawano Senior High School. It is in high school she met her soulmate Ronald Timm. They were married on Dec. 17, 1966, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. They made Albert Lea their home in 1967.

Nancy’s first priority was making a loving home for her family. She also had worked for a short time at AAL in Appleton, typed for a court reporter in Albert Lea and was a lunch lady at Hawthorne School. She found a job she loved and worked for District #241 as a secretary first at Brookside School and later at Southwest. She retired in 2010 after 20 years with the district.

Nancy was strong in her faith and a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she had been active in the LWML Mission Society, the Ladies Society and Ruth Circle.

In addition to the joy she got from spending time with her grandchildren, Nancy also enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, gardening and canning.

Nancy will be greatly missed by her husband Ron, children: Steven (Julie) Timm of Cedar Falls, Iowa, John (Toni) Timm of Albert Lea and Julie Timm of Forest Lake, Minnesota; grandchildren: Joshua, Hannah Aleah and Sarah Timm, Jake and Shelby Mindrup; sisters: Shirley (Don) Bowe of Manitowoc, Jean (Dan) Schott of Shawano; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tom Stachura of Pulaski, Jerry and Terrie Timm of Shawano, Betty and Dave Laatsch of Tigerton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Dorothy Haut, father-in-law and mother-in-law Edward and Dorothy Timm and a sister Debra Stachura.

Nancy had a courageous, loving spirit and was always willing to give of herself for others.

Robert August Woldt

Robert August Woldt, “Papa Bob,” age 82, of Bonduel, passed away suddenly on March 11, 2019, at his home. He was born on Aug. 31, 1936, in Shawano, son of the late August and Alma (Bartelt) Woldt. Bob was baptized in Christ on Sept. 27, 1936, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel by Rev. Walter J. Plischke. His sponsors were Virginia Pingel, Charles Woldt and Art Woldt. He was confirmed on April 2, 1950, by Rev. Walter J. Plischke at St. Paul Lutheran Church. His confirmation verse was 1 Timothy 6:12, “Fight the good fight for the faith. Keep holding on to eternal life, to which you were called and about which you gave a good testimony in front of many witnesses.”

A graduate of Bonduel High School, Bob received a scholarship to attend the Farm and Industry short course. He attended the University of Wisconsin, receiving a two year certificate and became an avid Badger fan for life.

After college, Bob worked in the farm equipment industry. He decided to join the St. Paul choir, and it was there he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Richter. Bob and Carol were married on June 27, 1959, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. The couple took over the family farm and were blessed with five children who enjoyed working together on the farm.

Bob enjoyed the time he spent serving as a 4-H leader, training 4-H youth in the tractor safety program. When financial hardships arose on the farm, Bob or Carol secured employment off the farm. Their children also helped support the farm, which is now in the fifth generation. Bob was employed in the farm equipment field selling John Deere equipment. He also worked in the automobile and small truck field at K&B Auto in Black Creek and Buss Automotive in Shawano.

Bob enjoyed working as the Town Chairman for the Town of Hartland for the past 22 years. He was blessed to have wonderful support from the township board members. He was also a proud member of the Hartland Township Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years.

Bob was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran church where he served on the finance committee, as secretary of the school board, as president of the PTL, as a church usher and as chairman of the congregation. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following their various activities and seeing them sing at church.

Bob is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Carol; his children, Robin (Jeffrey) Reep of Bonduel; Robert (Glenda) Woldt II of Bonduel, Rodney (Carol) Woldt of Bonduel, Roberta (Mike) Moeller of Black Creek and Ronald (Julie) Woldt of Greenville; grandchildren, Megan (special friend, Jake), Mallory (Michael), Michael (Erica), Matthew (Stephanie), Cassie (Mitch), Robbie (Marisa), Brandon (Tori), Katie (Bryan), Tyler (Amber), Chad, Alyssa (Cody), Ashley (Cody), Taylor (Justin), Amanda, Jennifer and Corrina; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Bryce, Clara, Chloe, Elias, Allegra, Oliver, Olivia, Oakleigh, Rehna, Harlynn and Riley. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents, August and Alma; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Selma Richter; sisters, Gladys (Glen) Barnes and Corrine (Bill) List; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, March 14, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Donovan

Elizabeth A. Donovan, age 97, of Milwaukee, formerly of the Town of Wescott in Shawano County, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Born on July 5, 1921 in West Allis, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Kellner) Maurer. On July 5, 1947 Elizabeth was united in marriage to the late Cornelius ‘Neil’ Donovan, who preceded her death on March 8, 1991, as well as her son, Patrick Donovan on February 15, 2007.

She is survived by her children Mary Kay (James) Donovan Haber of Eau Claire and Maureen (Jeffrey) Jasniewski of Greenfield; her grandchildren Greta Haber, Miguel Jasniewski, Paul Jasniewski and Erin Donovan; her great-grandchildren Cathleen Haber and Max Jasniewski, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Betty enjoyed reading, baking, knitting, and spending time with her family…especially her grandchildren. And let’s not forget how much she loved to drop the F bomb while playing cards.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Max A. Sass & Sons Mission Hills Chapel, 8910 W. Drexel Avenue, Franklin, WI, 53132. Elizabeth A. Donovan, age 97 of Milwaukee, formerly of the Town of Wescott in Shawano County, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Robert R. ‘Roy’ Caulfield CFD

Robert “Roy” Caulfield CFD, 91, of Shawano, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on March 9, 1928, in Chicago, Roy was the son of the late Lawrence and Henriette (Janssen) Caulfield. On April 11, 1953, Roy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Beverly J. Hewitt, in Chicago. The couple shared 62 wonderful years together and raised six children. Roy was a proud husband and father running the family with devotion and commitment. Beverly preceded Roy in death on April 11, 2015. Roy worked as a firefighter and as a union stone mason in Chicago for many years before moving to Shawano Lake in retirement. He enjoyed many years as a Boy Scout troop leader in Chicago when his children were young. Roy also enjoyed volunteering as a Eucharistic minister through Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he went above and beyond the call of duty. He was a true master of the art of conversation. A wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Roy is survived by six children, Dave CPD (Sandy), Dan CFD (Monica), Paul (Jose), Julie (Mike CFD) Nisivaco, Andy (Sally) and Patrick; grandchildren, Robert, Steve, Pam, Kim, Matt, Jake, Jack, Laura, Colleen, Daniel, Ryan and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Maeve, Isabella and Dolly; one sister, Sister Alice Caulfield BVM; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; his parents; and two brothers, Dale Edmund Caulfield and James Andrew Caulfield.

A funeral Mass for Roy will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 321 S. Sawyer St., Shawano, with the Rev. Tom Farrell officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home, 518 W. Fifth St., in Shawano on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and again at church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA 52003.

Ann Lucille Heinz

Ann L. Heinz, 92, of the Town of Lessor, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Born on June 12, 1926, in Disco, Wisconsin, she is the daughter of the late Hans Peter and Clara Palma (Erickson) Christensen. On April 7, 1945, Ann was united in marriage to Dallas Heinz, who preceded her in death on August 14, 2012. The couple were members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in the Town of Lessor, where Ann was a member of the Ladies’ Aid, as well as a Sunshine Lady. Ann enjoyed playing cards, adored her flower gardens and lovingly made a ‘care bear’ for each one of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, James (Helen) Heinz, of Little Suamico, Dallas (Linda) Heinz, of Green Bay, and Stephen Heinz, of Howard; her grandchildren, Dan (Kathy), Greg (significant other Sahara), Amy (Aaron), Tina (Todd), Jonathon (Jillanne), Jill, Jodi (Tim), Jason (Cathy) and Tammy (Craig); 23 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Don (Barb) Christensen, of Pittsfield. She is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and five siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in the Town of Lessor with the Rev. Wayne Garman officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

John R. Shest

John R. Shest, 21, of Bonduel, was born in Novosibirsk, Russia, on Dec. 24, 1997. He was adopted and came to live with his new parents in December 1998. He was baptized on Feb. 14, 1999, at Peace Lutheran Church in Split Rock. John was confirmed on Oct. 30, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Morris. His confirmation verse was John 3:16. John attended Tigerton schools from preschool through ninth grade. He graduated from Bonduel High School, where he was involved in cross-country and played the trumpet in the school band. He was selected to be in Wisconsin Ambassadors of Music and traveled to Europe during the summer of 2014. He received a degree in welding from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College-Green Bay in 2017. John loved the outdoors and spent most of his time running, biking and jumping on his trampoline. He suffered severe social anxiety and spent much of his time by himself. Those who knew him best appreciated his quick wit. He was interested in vintage rifles and spent countless hours restoring these rifles and resizing and reloading shells. He spent time at the range and was an excellent shot.

John is survived by his parents, Robert and Joyce Shest; his sister, Elena; and grandmother, Doris M. Buchholz, all of Bonduel.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John F. and Olga Shest and Raymond Buchholz.

A funeral service for John will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church mortgage fund.

Barbara Kay Witt

Barbara K. Witt, age 54, of Shawano, passed away at her home unexpectedly on March 15, 2019, following a brief illness. Barbara was born on April 18, 1964, in Kingsville, Texas, daughter of Kathleen A. (Eder) Witt and the late Howard B. Witt. Barbara attended Marion University in Fond du Lac and earned her degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She loved her career as a teacher and had worked at Keshena Primary School for 25 years. She adored traveling and spending time outdoors. She loved Lake Superior, as well as spending time at the cabin near Glidden, Wisconsin. In her free time, she enjoyed attending living history events and at one time was a volunteer at Heritage Hill State Historical Park. By far the most important part of her life was her family, she always put her family first and doted on her beloved nieces and nephews. Barbara was a wonderful caring woman and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Kathleen Witt, of Glidden; siblings, Carol (Chuck) Megan, of Glidden, Daniel (Jean) Witt, of Chilton, Michael (Lexi) Witt, of Glidden, Teresa (Raymond) Koshak, of Glidden, and Robert Witt, of Glidden; and her nieces and nephews, Klara, Theodore, Alexia, Brooke, Christopher, Jennifer, Marshall and Lilyan. She is further survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

Preceding Barbara in death were her father, Howard, and a sister, Patricia Witt.

A memorial service for Barbara will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 256 E. Second St., Glidden. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

David J. Hallas

David J. Hallas, 80, of Cecil, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Tomahawk. Born on Oct. 7, 1938, in Waukegan, Illinois, he is the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Povilaitis) Hallas. David and Margaret Rose “Midge” Lahr were united in marriage on March 20, 1962, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. David served his country honorably in the United States Army. Midge and David adored celebrating each of their grandkids’ fifth birthdays by taking them out West on their very own camping trip. David cherished camping with the family and took numerous trips to the Porcupine Mountains and Yellowstone National Park, where he could often be found hiking with his walking stick. He was very proud to be a longtime Mason and belonged to Mason Woods Lodge 368. In his free time, he was fond of golfing and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Dean) Cook, of Tomahawk; his son, David Hallas Jr., of Rhinelander; his grandchildren, Joe Hallas, Crystal Hallas, Ashley Lundberg, Amanda (Mark) Snow and Lindsy (David) Frelich; three great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brynlee and Ava; his siblings, Penny (Ray) Charbonnier and Gary (Sherry) Hallas, both of Illinois; and his wife, Jean Ziegler.

David was preceded in death by his wife, Midge; his parents, Joseph and Irene; and a sister, Nancy Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano. Military honors will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post 117. Prior to the funeral, a Masonic service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Gary Dean Eberhard Sr.

Gary Dean Eberhard Sr., 80, of Shawano, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Born on Oct. 4, 1938, in Neenah, he is the son of the late Harry and Laurel (Little) Eberhard. Gary graduated from high school in Appleton and worked in the local paper mills briefly before enrolling in the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy in 1965. He began his career with the Wisconsin State Patrol in 1966 in Dodge County. He later worked in Racine and Kenosha counties before moving to Shawano County. On April 30, 1982, he was united in holy matrimony to Margaret “Marge” Ward in Shawano. In 1996, Gary retired from Wisconsin State Patrol, Shawano County. He enjoyed working with the other law enforcement personnel in Shawano and Menominee counties over the years. Gary loved spending time with Marge at their cabin in Michigan, fishing for walleye in Canada, deer hunting, Friday night fish dinners, and spending time with his family.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Margaret, of Shawano; his children, Cynthia (Gary) Keuschel, of Shawano, Gary (significant other Sue) Eberhard Jr., of Clintonville, Marcia (significant other Mike) Switser, of Shawano; grandchildren, Harrison Keuschel, Zachary (significant other Kendra) Keuschel, Michael (significant other Tiffani) Keuschel, Britteny (Shane) Wadsworth, Daniel (Amanda) Switser and Patrick (Kelly) Switser; great-grandchildren, Roland, Athena, Kassidy, Dino, Johann, MacKenzie, and Christopher; a brother Russell Eberhard of Appleton; sisters-in-law, Doris Eberhard, Mary DuBois, Patricia (Dave) Adkins; brothers-in-law Dennis Ward, James (Judy) Ward, Jeffrey (Gabriela) Ward, Charles (Marilyn) Ward, William (Andrea) Ward, Art (Jody) Ward; and mother-in-law Lucille Ward. Gary will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Laurel Eberhard; sister, Geneva (Richard) Graham; brothers, Leslie (Millie) Eberhard and Harrison Eberhard; and a sister-in-law, Rita Eberhard.

A memorial Mass for Gary will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Cora M. Schultz

Cora M. (Fandrey) Schultz, 92, Gillett, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

She was born in Town of Hutchins on June 19, 1926, a daughter of the late William R. and Emma (Kielman) Fandrey. Cora married Marvin C. Schultz on Sept. 22, 1951, at St. Paulus Church in the Town of Almon, and together they raised one daughter, Jane.

The family made its home in Gillett, and Cora worked at the Canning Factory during the summer for many years. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was active in many ministries including the Ladies Aid and the church’s annual bazaar. Cora loved flower gardening and looked forward to planting flowers each year.

Cora faithfully read her prayer books. She loved listening to “her polkas” and will fondly be remembered for riding her bicycle around town for many years. A spiritual and loving woman, an amazing mother and grandmother, Cora’s greatest joy was her family and spending time with loved ones. She will be sadly missed.

Cora leaves her daughter, Jane (Randy) Bigelow; her grandchildren, Debbie Bigelow (Nate) and Robert Bigelow; her great-grandchildren, Kyle Mikula (Brandi), Breanna Mikula (Dylan), Ayden, Leah and Fisher; and her great-great-grandchild, Emerson. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Marvin, on March 8, 1993; her siblings, Ada (Al) Umland, Emmaline (Ed) Kuehn, Derwin (Helen), Norman (Caroline), Donald (Bernice) and an infant brother, Arnold Fandrey.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Friday, March 22, 2019, from 4-7 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Chapels, 108 E. Main St., Gillett. Visitation continues Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 2-3:45 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 101 W. Main St., Gillett. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Wanderer’s Rest Cemetery.
