
Dennis C. Posselt, 82, of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, in Shawano. Dennis was born in Shawano on June 30, 1936, son of the late Carl and Eunice (Pederson) Posselt. In his youth, Dennis enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, Oscar and Anna, and Charles and Bertha. He was a 1954 graduate of Shawano High School. On Feb. 27, 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army. He received special honors for sharpshooting at Tank and Gunnery School 8th Cav. He was in the 8th Recon Squadron of the 8th Division at Ft. Carson, Colorado, before transferring to Nuremburg-Merrell Barricks for 18 months. He also served in both Furth and Mannheim, Germany. While stationed in Germany, he met his future wife, Ursula Schlick. Dennis married the love of his life on June 26, 1958, at Gustave Adolf Church in Nuremberg, Germany. After his discharge in May 1959, the couple moved back to Shawano to start their new life together in America. Dennis worked at Little Rapids Corp. (formerly Shawano Paper Mill) for 38 years, until his retirement on March 1, 1999. In June 2018, the couple celebrated 60 years of marriage. Ursula preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2018. Dennis was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stony Hill. He loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and fishing trips to Minnesota with his family. He was especially proud of his vegetable garden, often exchanging gardening tips and vegetables with his neighbors. Dennis also enjoyed tinkering in his shop.
Dennis leaves behind his daughter, Cindy Mueller, of Shawano, and his son, Scott Posselt, of Bowler. He is the proud grandfather of three grandchildren, Jesse (Sacia) Mueller, of Shawano, Rainer Posselt, of Bowler, and Kayli Posselt, of Bowler; one great-grandson, Jesse Mueller Jr.; sister-in-law, Jewel Posselt; brother-in-law, James VandenBrook; Ursula’s brother, Manfred (Gisela) Schlick of Ontario, Canada; Ursula’s sister, Betti Kaestner of Nuremberg, Germany; the Kaestner family, Bernhard, Barbara, Nicolai, Michael, Marcus and Simone, all of Germany; as well as nieces and nephews, Susie Hein, Amy Younk, Kerry Harding, Daniel Posselt, Andrew Posselt and Kersten Schlick. He also leaves behind many cousins, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula; his parents, Carl and Eunice Posselt; paternal grandparents, Charles and Bertha (Fuhrman) Posselt; maternal grandparents, Oscar and Anna (Hanson) Pederson; his siblings, David Posselt and Patricia VandenBrook; his in-laws, Ludwig and Rosa Schlick; one niece, Michelle Forcy; and one nephew, Adrian Kaestner of Germany.
Memorial services for Dennis will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Stony Hill. Military honors will be conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
